| General Information The Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts is a recently founded faculty of Moscow
State University and accepted its first undergraduate students in the 2001-2
academic year. The Faculty accepts approximately 25 new students each year.
The Faculty offers courses leading to BA and MA degrees in areas of art and also
in the General Theory of Art. Tuition is aimed towards the development of both
highly developed skills specific to the course chosen and a fundamental
understanding of relevant theories and thoughts. In the course of their studies,
students will be expected to attain the skills pre-requisite to a balanced
interpretation of the world through artistic media, composition and critical
analysis in their chosen field.
The Faculty is divided into four departments:
Department of Music, Department of Drama, Department of Fine Arts, Department of
General Theory of Art.
Tuition in each department is structured around a wide range of theoretical
courses and practical workshops including lessons in two foreign languages.
Master-classes are arranged with renowned artists and experts, as are excursions
and seminars to the museums of Moscow, Moscow region, St. Petersburg and
overseas.
Candidates wishing to begin their studies must, in the first instance,
successfully pass a practical assessment of their artistic skills as relevant to
the course for which they have applied:
DEPARTMENT OF DRAMA
Candidates wishing to enter the department are required to recite without script
a work of poetry (being either a whole poem or a self-standing section of a
larger poetic work); a piece of prose (a short story, tale or self-standing
section of a larger work); a fable, to be chosen by the candidate. Recited texts
may be written by a Russian or foreign author but are in any case to be
delivered in Russian. A candidate may be invited to perform a previously
prepared musical and/or choreographic fragment.
DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC
Examinations for candidates wishing to enter the department will include oral
solfeggio exercises; written harmony and/or theory of music exercises, and a
recital (without script) of a short piece of music (romance, aria, instrumental
miniature or composition).
DEPARTMENT OF FINE ARTS
Candidates wishing to enter the department will be examined on drawing and
compositional skills and are required to submit previous works (oils, tempera,
water-colour, pastels, pencil and others).
DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL THEORY OF ART
Candidates wishing to enter the department are required to attend an interview,
where they will be examined on their knowledge of Russian and foreign art and
culture.
Candidates, having successfully passed departmental assessments relevant to
their chosen field of study, will be examined in the following disciplines:
-Russian language and literature (written examination)
-National History (oral examination)
