520 highly skilled faculty members work at 65 departments of the
University. Among them, there are 12 academicians, 74 professors and 294
associate professors. The University's students are 3700 Russian and
former USSR citizens and over 700 international students from Asia,
Africa, Latin America, Europe and Arab countries.
At its disposal, the University has 4 educational
buildings, 5 big multiprofile clinics for 7000 in-patients with
departments of surgery, cardiology, traumatology, ophthalmology,
obstetrics and gynecology equipped with up-to-date teaching, experimental
and research facilities, computer centers and comfortable hostels.
Due to the State License of the Ministry for Education
of the Russian Federation the Volgograd State Medical University provides
medical education for foreign citizens. The University has been training
international students since 1962. Students from 70 countries of Europe,
Asia, and Latin America have been doing courses at our University. Over
this period 2500 general practitioners, dentists and pediatricians have
been trained for foreign countries.
In 1998 the first students of the College of Pharmacy
graduated from the University.
About 70 foreign specialists take post-diploma courses
every year.
Our graduates work in many countries: the USA , Great
Britain , France , Germany , Czech Republic , Slovakia , India , Arab
countries, etc.
Due to the State License for language teaching the
Foundation Course trains international students to enter the higher
educational establishments of Russia . Its aim is to teach international
students chemistry, biology, anatomy, physics and the Russian language.
The academic year begins on October 1. In case of successful completion of
the Foundation Course, the students are admitted to one of the colleges of
the University according to his/her choice.
College of General
Medicine:-
Beginning with 2001 English-speaking students may be
admitted to the English–medium Department where they are trained in
English. This will enable them to begin studies without taking Foundation
Courses.

Practical training of foreign students of college of
general medicine

The College of General Medicine trains specialists in internal disease,
surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, phychiatry, otorhinolaryngology,
dermatology and venereology, infectious diseases, etc. The departments of
the college are equipped with modern diagnostic devices. Foreign
scientists and consultants are invited to deliver lectures. The course
of studies is 6 years.

College of Dentistry:-
The College of Dentistry has modern teaching and
technical facilities and trains specialists in therapeutic dentistry,
maxillofacial surgery, orthopedic dentistry and pediatric dentistry. There
is a course of training specialists in prophylactic dentistry. The course
of studies is 5 years.
College of Pediatrics
The training at the faculty of Pediatrics employs a
number of peculiar didactic methods, since the pediatrician is not a mere
doctor, but the doctor who can relieve the sufferings of his little
patients not only by using medical means but also by finding a special way
of dealing with them.
In the first years prospective pediatricians acquire a
profound knowledge of children's anatomy and physiology at the same time
developing awareness of various aspects of medical deontology. Beginning
in the third year they encounter their small patients in real-life
clinical settings with experienced pediatricians sharing their knowledge
and expertise in diagnosing and treating sick children with them.
Since the faculty was launched more than 2458
pediatricians have been qualified.

students of college of pharmacy

College of Pharmacy:-
The Pharmaceutical college is the most perspective at
the University. It is famous for its scientists-pharmacologists well-known
both in Russia and abroad. The course of studies is 5 years.
The post-diploma
training of foreign specialists is conducted at all departments of all
colleges of the University in the following fields: Allergology and
Immunology, Cardiology, Clinical Pharmacology, Endocrinology, Family
Doctor, Gastroenterology, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Infectious Diseases,
Maxillofacial Surgery, Neurology, Oncology, Operative Dentistry,
Ophthalmology, Orthodontics, Otolaryngology, Pathological Anatomy,
Pediatrics, Phthisiology, Preventive Dentistry, Prosthetic Dentistry,
Psychiatry, Pulmonology, Radial Therapy, Skin and ST Diseases, Social
Hygiene and Public Health, Sports Medicine and Occupational Therapy,
Stomatology of Children, Surgery of Children, Surgery, Therapy,
Traumatology and Orthopedics, Urology.
There are 3 varieties of post-diploma training:
Internship, Residency, and Post-graduate training for M.Sc. The course
of studies at the Internship is for 1 year. After graduation the
Specialization Certificate is granted.
The course of studies at the Residency is from 2 to 5
years. After graduation the Specialist Certificate is granted.
The course of studies at the Post-Graduate Course is
from 3 to 5 years. There are 2 forms of studies: a full-time and an
extra-mural one. Following thesis completion the scientific degree PhD
(Medicine) is granted.
In In 1988 a college for
secondary medical education was founded within Volgograd State Medical
University . The college provides secondary education courses in two
fields:
- Orthopedic Dentistry qualifying students as dental
laboratory technicians;
- Pharmacy qualifying students as pharmacists.
Students of the Department of Pharmacy gain proficiency
required for an employment at pharmaceutical institutions: pharmacies,
drugstores, storehouses, drug-producing industries and testing and
inspecting laboratories. Students are trained in a number of subjects such
as pharmacology, pharmaceutical chemistry, drug form technologies,
pharmacy management alongside with natural sciences and humanities.
Students of the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry are
exposed to up-to-date orthopedic techniques. Theoretical and practical
training is focused on the analytic study of oral cavity and modeling
techniques. Students also acquire practical skills such as making
removable prostheses and various crowns under the supervision of
experienced teachers and highly-qualified dental laboratory technicians.
The academic year starts on September 1. The course of
study is 2 years 10 months.
Preliminary training is provided by a special Department
where Russian, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Anatomy are taught in the
Russian medium. Preliminary training starts on October 1. Applicants who
passed the exams after completing preliminary training courses are
enrolled in the medical college in the field chosen.
An applicant for admission to a medical college after
completing a preliminary training course in another higher educational
institution has to be tested in chemistry and the Russian language to be
admitted.
The college graduates are granted a State Diploma of
Secondary Professional Education. This diploma does not correspond to the
Bachelor Degree.
Students Scientific Society
While studying students take part in the work of
different scientific societies, carry out research, make scientific
presentations at Russian and international scientific conferences, and
publish the results of their research in Russia and abroad.
